One of the better sources of Audacity tutorials for beginners is Mike Russell's YouTube channel. Fortunately, there is no shortage of YouTube videos that will show you everything you need to know and then some. The only trouble is that it can feel a bit overwhelming the first time that you open it up on your desktop. For classroom podcasting projects or other classroom audio recording projects, it is hard to beat Audacity. Some of the other updates to Synth include automatic titling of recordings, improved transcription services, and students can now create podcasts independent of a teacher's account (previously, students had to make the podcasts as a part of a teacher account). There are default effects that you can use and you can upload your own sounds for further customization of recordings (check out Sound Bible for free sound effects to upload to Synth). You can now include sound effects at the beginning of a recording and or between recordings that have been connected. This week Synth announced a few updates to their service that teachers and students will like. You can experience a Synth podcast by listening to this overview of the service. Think of it kind of like Flipgrid for audio. If you're familiar with what Synth does, it provides a simple way to create short podcasts that people can reply to with their own audio comments. Synth is one of my favorite new ed tech tools of the 2018-19 school year. New Features Added to Synth - Simple Podcasting for Students When you are satisfied with your audio file in AudioMass you can export as an MP3 file. Some of those include fade in/ fade out, distortion adjustments, reverb adjustments, and playback speed. There are about a dozen and a half effects that you can edit in AudioMass. ![]() You can import existing MP3s that you own into AudioMass to edit the audio playback. You can record directly into AudioMass by clicking the red record button at the top of the interface. To get started using AudioMass just head to the site and click "use a sample" to start exploring the audio editing tools. In fact, there isn't even an option to register. AudioMass doesn't require any registration in order to use it.
